I recently finished this portrait done in Oil.  Below is a picture of me working on the under painting.  Once I have the image where it needs to be and the correct contrast, I then move into to the color.  Its important to have the underpainting perfect so that I don’t encounter any problems when I apply the color.  Once I get into color, the process is very slow and deliberate.  I like to work on the face first and get that looking good because it is the most important part of the piece, where viewers attention is most focused.
